Silver jubilee
30 December 2013

2013 saw the 25th anniversary of the creation of Libindx which was set up to eliminate the need for the very heavy card index cabinets in the former Local Studies Section in Elgin Public Library in Grant Lodgem, which were threatening to fall through the dry rot ridden floor of the building. Now the index contains entries for 254,601 people, 41,167 properties and 17,072 subjects relating to Moray and, thanks to the efforts of a small group of dedicated volunteers, is continually growing.

Search Page
09 June 2006

Additional fields have been added to the initial page in the "People Search" section, enabling the researcher to search by place of marriage and/or death and by headstone reference. The "Cemetery Explorer" in the options also enables you to recall every person whose name appears on a gravestone in a particular cemetery. If a particular house is haunted you can also find the names of people who have died there. Do not attempt to fill in all the fields when you are carrying out a search. The fewer details you enter, the greater the chance youi have of finding someone.

Message Board
09 June 2006

There is now a message board in the "advice/help" section. This will help researchers trying to contact relatives. It is adviseable to include your email address with a message so that people can contact you. Staff of the Local Heritage Centre will not undertake work in connection with messages which appear in the message board.

Move to East End Primary School
17 May 2006

The Local Heritage Centre has now taken over occupancy of half of the old school buildings at East End Primary School, Institution Road, Elgin. Access is from Institution Road and opening times remain unchanged. The greater room for the service means that the collection of local history books is once again available to researchers.
